Oregon-Based the Greenbrier Companies Mitigated Risk and Maintained Business Continuity During the Divestiture With Help of SAP® Gold Partner
CHICAGO, IL / ACCESSWIRE / April 26, 2021 /Dickinson + Associates, a Navisite company, today announced the successful separation of The Greenbrier Companies’ (GBX) new SAP® ERP Central Component environment – a project completed remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic in just 16 weeks.
Globally, a third of carve-outs fail to go according to plan, with a fifth of them wasting millions of dollars due to inefficiencies, according to recent research from TMF Group. However, Dickinson + Associates’ proven project methodology, which leverages SAP solutions and optimizes best practices and processes, ensured Greenbrier’s carve-out could take place much quickly and effectively, with very few disruptions.
“We wanted to make sure we had no business downtime, where we could rely on the data being transferred,” said Elisabeth Richard, Greenbrier’s CIO. “Ultimately, the project was well-executed, and Dickinson was reliable and agile, especially for a project that unfolded like no one could have expected due to COVID.”
Greenbrier, a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of railroad freight car equipment in North America and Europe, acquired the manufacturing assets of American Railcar Industries (ARI) in 2019. From February to June 2020, Dickinson + Associates led the way on the carve-out project, focused primarily on mitigating risk and maintaining business continuity.
This meant speed to separation – and, as a result, lower costs – was key to the transition to ensure Greenbrier could maintain stability while focusing on the strategic priorities that mattered most.
“We understand the importance of working closely with companies to quickly separate their environment and exit the transition services agreement,” said Brad Wolfe, vice president of sales and corporate development at Dickinson + Associates. “Executing four to six months earlier than you’re planning can essentially fund the entire project. Our methodology enables us to help bring massive cost savings to our customers.”
The uncertainty and change that often accompanies divestitures can sap the efficiency necessary to make them successful. However, Dickinson + Associates’ experience leading carve-outs for companies in the mid-market ensured it could lead Greenbrier through a critical time for its business.
“The acquisition required a smooth transition of the ERP environment, so we knew the stakes were high,” Wolfe said. “Despite having to execute the project virtually due to the pandemic, we were able to get Greenbrier running on their own SAP environment in no time, with very few issues along the way.”
