Dr. Howard Gitlowwas a mentee of W. E. Deming, Ph.D., who was a Professor at the Stern School of Business and developed the System of Profound Knowledge, 14 points for management, and the seven deadly diseases of management. Dr. Gitlow synthesized Deming’s management theory with the administrative systems of the Japanese Way of Total Quality Control and the tools and methods of  Six Sigma management and Lean Manufacturing. His synthesis of these four areas is called Deming-based Lean Six Sigma management. It is critical for organizations to meet or exceed the demands of today’s world.

Dr. Howard Gitlow graduated from New York University with a B.S. in Statistics in 1969, an M.B.A. in 1972, and a Ph.D. in Statistics and Operations Research in 1974. He is presently a Professor of Management Science and Health Sector Management at the prestigious University of Miami Herbert School of Business. He was also a visiting professor at the Stern School of Business of New York University from 2007 to 2014, as well as at the Science University of Tokyo in 1990. He had the opportunity to study with Dr. Noriaki Kano at the Science University of Tokyo.

Dr. Gitlow was so impressed by W. E. Deming that he worked with him from 1979 until his death in 1993. During these years, he was able to learn about the System of Profound Knowledge, the 14 Points for Management, and the 7 deadly diseases from Dr. Deming. He consulted with and lectured with Dr. Deming during these years.
